Swing Issues I - The SwingSwing Issues I - The SwingHi, I’m Clive Scarff, author of the #1 ranked golf instruction book “Hit Down Dammit!”

I have been teaching golf since 1994, and a natural by-product of teaching is addressing the questions and misconceptions regarding the golf swing. The success of Hit Down Dammit! has led, pleasantly, to a huge influx of letters also asking questions or seeking clarity over misconceptions regarding the golf swing. Many of these letters ask the same questions… no doubt questions a great many other golfers would like the answers to as well.

"Swing Issues I", my second book (of four) discusses the most common questions and misconceptions about the golf swing. For me, a priority was dealing with the misconceptions. There are so many misconceptions and myths, in golf, that we tend to accept, and we do not question them. This is for the singular reason that this is golf, golf is mystical, and the mystical and common sense do not mix. Which is of course ridiculous. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard someone defend a myth with no explanation. The best they could come up with was, “But everyone knows that” or “But that’s what they say” or my personal favourite, “It’s always been that way.” If that made any sense we’d still have rotary dial telephones.

"Swing Issues I" deals with, among other things, misconceptions such as:

- the need to be able to “work” [draw/fade] the ball (I’ve never seen a straight hitter that was a bad player);
- the notion that a bigger backswing produces more power (it can be quite the opposite);
- the left hand controls the swing while the right hand goes along for the ride (does this make sense to you if you are right handed?);
- keeping the right wrist bent through impact (try throwing a ball without straightening your wrist);
- the notion that the clubface must always be square throughout the swing (nothing that rotates can be eternally square)
- and more.

Because many of the concepts discussed in Swing Issues I require a basic understanding of other concepts, this book also discusses basics such as:

- the downswing
- swing path
- swing plane
- the set-up position
- acceleration
- use of the hands, and more.

I know you will find Swing Issues I informative, interesting, and thought-provoking. You may also find I am quite forthright in my opinions, but they are not really opinions. They are facts based upon discoveries stemming from teaching, talking, and writing about the golf swing for nearly twenty years.

I invite you to read Swing Issues I, and if one single chapter leads to an epiphany with respect to your golf swing, I think you will agree it was worth the time invested. Best of luck with your game,

Clive Scarff

After studying the golf swing for over 25 years, JF Tamayo has developed a revolutionary method proved for the weekend golfer of any level to significantly improve distance and accuracy from day one, based on three main principles:

1) FOCUS ON CHANGES THAT MOST POSITIVELY AFFECT RESULTS: Opposite to the traditional methods, this book will only ask you to make changes in the most relevant parts of the swing needed to hit solid and consistent shots: the backswing and the transition between the backswing and the downswing.

2) LEARN HOW TO DEVELOP AN EASY, REPEATABLE AND SOLID BACKSWING: One of the biggest breakthroughs of the method was the development of a unique and much easier way to consistently make a solidly sound backswing that will look similar to the new Tiger Wood´s one plane backswing but much simpler to learn, to do and to repeat.

3) LEARN HOW TO CREATE LAG: Being able to increase lag during the downswing is one of the major differences between the amateur's golf swing versus a professional's and probably one of the most misunderstood concepts of golf. In this book you will easily learn how to lag the club like the pros, dramatically improving your clubhead speed, ball striking ability and distance.

This incredible and simple method will instantly take your game to a higher level while you will be helping others since 50% of the profits obtained from this project will be donated to charity.

- the need to be able to “work” [draw/fade] the ball (I’ve never seen a straight hitter that was a bad player);
- the notion that a bigger backswing produces more power (it can be quite the opposite);
- the left hand controls the swing while the right hand goes along for the ride (does this make sense to you if you are right handed?);
- keeping the right wrist bent through impact (try throwing a ball without straightening your wrist);

Clive Scarff

golf swing video clipJust as trying anything new, learning a new sport can be a real challenge for you especially if it is one that needs a lot of practice, for example golf. You can play yourself or with friends to improve your golf swing, but this can be impractical sometimes. Furthermore, it can even discourage you if you have spent a lot of time practicing it but come to no real progress.

- the need to be able to “work” [draw/fade] the ball (I’ve never seen a straight hitter that was a bad player);
- the notion that a bigger backswing produces more power (it can be quite the opposite);
- the left hand controls the swing while the right hand goes along for the ride (does this make sense to you if you are right handed?);
- keeping the right wrist bent through impact (try throwing a ball without straightening your wrist);

Understanding the Golf Swing: Today's Leading Proponents of Ernest Jones' Swing Principles Presents a Complete System for Better GolfUnderstanding the Golf Swing: Today's Leading Proponents of Ernest Jones' Swing Principles Presents a Complete System for Better Golf"Understanding the Golf Swing covers virtually every phase of the game in the same common sense and simple approach. It is a must read for every golfer."—Tommy Aaron, PGA Tour Professional and 1973 Masters Champion

This modern classic of golf instruction by renowned teacher Manuel de la Torre (the 1986 PGA Teacher of the Year and the #11 teacher in America as ranked by the editors of Golf Digest in 2007) presents a simpler approach to the golf swing based on Ernest Jones' principles. Understanding the Golf Swing includes information on the philosophy of the golf swing (with emphasis on the development of a true swinging motion), the most thorough analysis of ball flights available, and analysis of the principles of special shot play (including sand play, pitching, chipping, putting, and playing unusual shots) and the mental side of golf and effective course management. The final chapter offers an organized approach to understanding golf courses and playing conditions. The result is a blend of philosophy and practical advice found in few golf instructional books. 100 b/w photographs.

- the need to be able to “work” [draw/fade] the ball (I’ve never seen a straight hitter that was a bad player);
- the notion that a bigger backswing produces more power (it can be quite the opposite);
- the left hand controls the swing while the right hand goes along for the ride (does this make sense to you if you are right handed?);
- keeping the right wrist bent through impact (try throwing a ball without straightening your wrist);
